American History Day!

The ruins of the house that sits on the grounds of the Winery at Bull Run, known as Hillwood Mansion, have been witness to countless events that have shaped the land that surrounds it. This simple summer farm became the site of the first major land battle of the Civil War before settling into being the private residence for many families, and then emerging once again as the farm winery we know today. We invite you to step back in time and come face to face with some of the men and women who helped shape our country and the landscape in which we reside.

  • Meet Generals Philip Sheridan and John Newton, as well as Admiral David Porter.
  • Hear the story of Reconciliation as told by Corporal Benson and Captain Rice.
  • See how the encampments of the 33rd Virginia & 2nd Rhode Island spent their days.
  • View relics recovered from local relic hunters & learn the stories behind the finds.
  • Our Museum with more than 200,000 artifacts will be open throughout the day.
  • Tour Guides will be available at the Hillwood Ruins and Winter Cabin to share the history of both sites.
  • History Day at the Winery wouldn’t be complete without the chance to learn about the history of winemaking and participate in an old-fashioned grape stomp – all accompanied by the sounds of The Shade Tree Collective Blue Grass Band.

All events are all ages, and open to the public. No ticket is required.

The event is finished.
